Review – The Riot Room, Thane

Winter is gradually disappearing and summer is knocking at the door. I am sure many of you, like me, must have made the most of winter taking unlimited trips to the parks, beaches, etc with kids for some real leisure time. But sadly that will come to an end now as summer is arriving and this time predictions are the sun Gods will get as nasty as they can 🙂

The eternal question, Where does one take the kids during summers? always lingers.

Mumbai Moms are often concerned about where to take their kids for entertainment and pure fun in summers, especially during the never ending school vacations. The eternal question, where does one take the kids during summers? always lingers. I suggest you try out an indoor play area, a secure, free play zone with air conditioning and safe play equipment. Mumbai has quite a few of them that are well scattered in all parts of the city and I have taken Nabeel to most of them, the recent one being The Riot Room on Ghodbunder Road, Thane.

The Riot Room (TRR) opened its doors in September last year and is the brain child of a young mother, Hardika Lakhani. It boasts of a sprawling play area of 5500 sq. ft. which no other play zone in the city does. SPACE, according to me is the USP of this place. Plus, it is a first of its kind indoor play zone in the central suburbs.

“I love the concept of free play and want to promote it as much as I can. Today’s kids seldom indulge in free play due to various reasons like technology takeover, security issues, weather conditions, lack of space, clean playgrounds, etc. I have a 2 year old daughter and want her to play and exert, just by being herself without me worrying about any of the above. So I started TRR, which is the answer to all my worries and other like-minded mothers too”, explains Hardika.

Like most indoor play zones, this too has sections dedicated to toddlers and older kids, with each being well supervised by attendants who help kids play and keep them company while you can relax and enjoy some refreshments in the cafeteria. I loved the thoughtful interiors of the place and like how every small nook and corner of the play zone is attractive and inviting. The slides and ball pools were the most loved by my son, Nabeel. Other attractions include Trampoline, Zipline, Rock climbing and Mirror maze. The play equipments are clean, safe – without any protruding metal pieces or sharp edges, colourful and of top most quality ensuring there are no bruises or wounds only giggles and loud laughs 🙂

Besides, the place is ideal for Birthday Parties, Playdates, and other fun meet-ups that revolve around kids. Food can be ordered from the cafeteria and menus can be customized. The food on offer is not your run of the mill ready to eat stuff which is sitting in display counters waiting for you to pick it up. TRR has a well set-up in house kitchen which is supervised and run under the watchful eye of Hardika’s mother in law Bhavna Lakhani. It is a neat kitchen where everything is prepared fresh using the most kid friendly ingredients. As Hardika informs, “MSG, food colour and preservatives never make it to TRR’s grocery list”.

Wait there’s more, the place is not only meant for kids. If you are an enthusiastic mom who believes in playing (literally!) and having fun with her children then you will be more than welcome to play and be a child again. However, make sure you bring along a lot of (child like) energy and, of course a pair of socks 🙂 which are a must for everyone entering the play area.
